About HardwarePrices UK
Who runs HardwarePrices UK, how prices are updated, and how Amazon affiliate links are used.
How It's Made
Data is gathered manually, cleaned, and processed using Python scripts which automate the process of adding new data to each page. The website is built with static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Prices are manually verified and updated regularly.
Who Owns It?
CloudedStar - a tech enthusiast and university student based in the UK.
Why Build This?
- To help friends and family help themselves
- It started as a rough dataset I put together so the people closest to me could get answers without having to come to me first. A vein attempt to retire from the tech-support family member role.
- To learn and ship something real
- This site is a vessel for picking up new skills and actually putting something out into the world, rather than letting side projects collect dust.
- To be a utility, not a click farm
- The irony here is not lost on me, but most sites like this exist to funnel you to the highest-commission product, not the best one. I want to make a resource, something that can distill complex information, therefore empowering casual buyers to make informed decisions. My new Guides section aims to represent this; It's there for information, not to ram links in and upsell readers. It's gives the site an SEO boost too, I just don't plan framing the language or topics of those Guides to chase it.
